TOO MANY BODIES

The 72nd story in the Detective Joseph Lind series, by Peter C Byrnes. Senior Detective Joseph Lind, the senior statesperson on the Murder Squad floor, is nearing retirement — with his junior partner Detective Angelica 'Angie' De Longo encouraging him to commit his most memorable cases to paper. During a period of reminiscing, Lind tells Angie about two homicides that have stuck with him across the years. The first, a sudden, brutal killing of forty years ago. The second, a case where the Magistrate dismissed every charge — and her closing summation has haunted him ever since. When the two detectives are called to a body in an open stormwater drain, the manner of death begins to mirror the first case, and old ghosts return.
