Price It Right: A Pricing Guide for Handmade Business Owners (India Edition)

Most handmade businesses don't fail because the product isn't good enough — they fail because the pricing was never right to begin with. Most makers price by instinct: add up material cost, round up a little, and hope it covers everything. It rarely does. This guide gives you a simple, repeatable formula to price any handmade product — candles, soap, baked goods, paintings, or anything else you make and sell — so your price actually covers your materials, your time, your overhead, and a real profit margin, not just the ingredients. Inside, you'll learn how to value your own labor properly, spot the overhead costs most makers forget (electricity, packaging, platform fees, wear on equipment), tell the difference between markup and margin, and price wholesale and custom orders without shortchanging yourself. Worked examples across candle-making, soap-making, baking, and painting show the formula in action using realistic Indian market rates, and a fill-in worksheet at the end lets you calculate your own numbers product by product. Whether you're setting prices for the first time or suspect your current prices are quietly losing you money, this guide walks you through exactly what to fix.
